Android device could be affected by a crypto-mining botnet

Image
Thousands of Android devices are currently affected by a malicious piece of malware called ADB.Miner that infects the device and then uses it to mine for the cryptocurrency Monero. Creating what is known as a botnet, this particular piece of malware targets Android devices (including TV boxes and possibly phone and smart home electronics) using the debugging system as an entry point to access a port called ‘port 5555’.  This port is usually closed, but can be accessed using debugging tools, which give the malware its name ‘ADB’ after the Android Debug Bridge system. Majority of victims in Far East The botnet was discovered by Chinese security firm Netlab which released a blog post claiming: "Overall, we think there is a new and active worm targeting Android systems' ADB debug interface spreading, and this worm has probably infected more than 5,000 devices in just 24 hours. Those infected devices are actively trying to spread malicious code." Netlab has since released  ano...

Android P wll include native call recording feature?

Image
Although  Android Oreo  hasn’t arrived just yet for a lot of smartphones, we’ve already begun hearing some buzz around the next Android version –  Android P . The latest leak indicates that it may feature native support for call recording. This feature was suggested by a number of commits that were discovered in the main repository of the Android Open Source Project, which was first reported by  Android Headline . Apparently, some codes refer to the existence of “call recording tone”, that would presumably be played once users press the corresponding button in order to start recording their conversation. “The tone itself is said to be of the 1,400Hz variety, meaning people of all ages should be able to hear it without any issues, with one of the commits referring to it revealing that it’s meant to be played every 15 seconds while the conversation is being recorded, presumably as to remind the person who didn’t initiate the recording that it’s still participating...

New Version of Google plus Will release soon

Image
Google+ may have fallen off the radar for most people, but it's actually been improving a lot over the last year. The social network used to have a bit of a problem with  spam , but Google's been  all-out  in providing  new tools  for moderating content. From our vantage, it seems to be making a difference, and now Google is investing even more development into the platform. Leo Deegan, the engineering manager for Google+, has just announced that the company will soon release a "brand new version" of the app. Though it might look and behave similarly, expect significant changes under the hood. Until we get a chance to play with this new version ourselves, we won't know exactly what to expect, but it sounds like Google has put a lot of time into modernizing how the app works at a fundamental level. I can't say that performance on the old version of the app seemed to be a problem, but in his announcement, Deegan describes improvements in rendering and scrolling ...

Android Nougat now is become the most used Android version

Image
Android’s distribution charts have never been pretty. Unless you love seeing Ten Shades of Green every month. While there is indeed beauty in diversity, from a technical and consumer standpoint, it’s an ugly mess. So when the whole distribution takes a step closer to defragmentation, there’s definitely reason to be happy in Android land. Android Nougat, both 7.0 and 7.1 releases, have now surpassed Marshmallow as the most used version in the market, complemented by Oreo’s slow but sure rise to 1%. Of course, Android Nougat was launched in 2016, so it has been in the wild for more than a year. But anyone who has observed Android distribution numbers for years will know that it usually takes longer for most recent versions to even get a quarter of the pie. But that’s exactly what Nougat accomplished as of February 5 this year. That said, Nougat has barely surpassed Marshmallow. Android 7.0 and 7.1 together make up 28.5% while Marshmallow, which only had one release, is at 28.1%. Together...
